Address verification for 911 services project '75% complete'

Address verification as part of a project to enhance 911 services in the Lake Cumberland area is nearly three quarters complete, an expert asserts.

David Rowland, the county's development district public safety coordinator, tells that the first stage of the initiative, in which a structure database corresponding with address data is constructed, is progressing well.

He says error correction is scheduled for August this year, after two teams complete their mapping operation.

"Less than 50 per cent of homes have a mailbox or house number posted … [There are] roads where the state calls it one name but the sign or mailing route calls it something else," he states.

Mr Rowland claims that the equipment for the system should be in place at the end of August or beginning of September.

In other news, address verification for the 2010 census is underway, with surveyors visiting houses throughout the US in preparation for the process.
