Businesses need to keep tabs on who is accessing cloud based data management systems in order to protect security, according to Vigil Software.
Alex Teh, the commercial director of the information security solutions company, said that the emergence of cloud computing is hugely beneficial for a vast number of businesses.
"It provides small organizations, or large organizations, with the ability to deliver applications without investing in the infrastructure required to do it," Mr Teh explained.
However, he said that the "tricky part" is making sure that those who access the cloud data management platform are who they say they are.
He added that it is the responsibility of resellers' channel partners and distributors to provide the technology to aid that requirement and protect data security.
According to a recent study by Dell, 57 per cent of the IT professionals it polled said they perceived data security as a barrier to adoption of cloud-based solutions.
