Cloud computing to be commonplace in data centers

A growing number of data center managers are looking to adopt cloud computing technologies, it has been claimed.

According to the results of a recent survey conducted by Afcom, more than 70 per cent of respondents are already implementing the technology or seriously considering it.

The survey, which looked at past and future trends in hosted data management, questioned 358 managers across a range of industries.

It found that 36.6 per cent of respondents implemented cloud computing and another 35.1 per cent were seriously considering it.

As such, the firm forecast that between 80 to 90 per cent of all data centers would utilize some form of cloud computing within the next five years.

"In an environment where change is an accepted part of day-to-day life, it is important to recognize how data center managers are adapting to the new technologies and directions emerging in the industry," Jill Yaoz, chief executive officer at the firm, said.
