Cloud offers 'extensions of trends towards virtualization'

Rachel Wheeler Archive
Recent research has found that IT professionals believe that cloud computing offers an extension of long-term trends toward remote networks and virtualization.

A total of 47 per cent of people responded to a survey at the Cloud Expo with this opinion.

Meanwhile, 37 per cent said that they saw the cloud as a radically new way to think about their own IT function.

However, non-IT executives had notable different responses, with only 26 per cent suggesting that senior leaders view the cloud as a logical extension of IT development.

Around 37 per cent went on to say that their business leaders were most likely to describe the cloud as having immense potential.

Steve Schuckenbrock, president at Dell Services, commented on the research: "IT leaders understand the tremendous opportunity the cloud offers for their organizations, and they are clearly optimistic about its future.

"IT execs realize that people in their organizations want instant access to a wide range of information and applications. They want to be able to meet those 'Yes, Now' expectations, and they know better than anyone what the challenges are."
