An ever-increasing number of organizations are looking to cloud-based solutions, such as software as a service (SaaS), to reduce costs to cash-strapped IT departments.
Speaking to Forbes Magazine, Ronald Knode, a director of global security solutions at Computer Sciences Corp, said that it was important that companies took their time to investigate the different options which are available to them.
"I do think small and medium-sized businesses often get intimidated by the process and don't make sure to take a few extra minutes to get their questions answered," he told the news provider.
"There are alternatives, and you don't have to take the first guy who comes down the pike."
The security expert recommended businesses contact various agencies, as well as asking for industry-wide opinions, before switching to the service.
According to the Association for Information and Image Management Europe, security needs to be the primary concern of individuals before they opt for cloud computing technologies.
The body explained that the privacy and safety of information needed to be taken seriously.
