Companies that are looking to devise new data security policies have been told they should not stand in the way of progress.
According to Aon Risk Solutions, companies that fail to embrace technology such as cloud computing, social media and mobile communications risk lagging behind their competitors, PropertyCasualty360 reports.
Therefore, it believes any data security guidelines must strike an appropriate balance between using these innovations and protecting sensitive information.
Kevin Kalinich, Aon's global practice leader for cyber liability, commented: "You can lock down devices so no-one can get into the network, but are you losing sales or some potential new business?"
He added that the emergence of new interactive telecommunications systems in the last few years has been a "revolution" in the world of technology.
Aon has advised businesses to check their legal obligations when devising data security policies and to keep up to date with any regulatory changes that take place.
