The development of a mobile app may be a good idea for internet retailers, in light of new research from PriceGrabber.com.
According to the comparison site, 84 per cent of consumers with retail apps on their smartphones will be looking to them to save money during the festive season.
PriceGrabber.com says that 39 per cent of US smartphone users have a retail app on their handset, and this figure is rising all the time.
In fact, 42 per cent of smartphone users have downloaded or plan to download a mobile app during the fourth quarter of the year.
"With so many consumers owning smartphones with internet access, allowing them to check prices, read merchant reviews and purchase right from their phone, retailers are being forced to offer the same prices in their online and brick-and-mortar stores," says Graham Jones, PriceGrabber general manager.
Research from AT&T reveals that 43 per cent of marketers rank deploying a mobile app as a priority in the next 12 months.
