Companies must take immediate action to ensure data management keeps up with advancements in mobile technology.
Jon Callas, chief technology officer at Entrust, many workers are now bringing their own smartphones and tablet devices into work with them, using them to connect to corporate Wi-Fi and complete work-related tasks.
Mr Callas says this process is "inevitable and happening", so it is vital that companies immediately assess how this is affecting their data management and the security of their information.
While the devices themselves are now more secure, networks need to be able to cope with this different type of access.
"If you don't have a set up that makes it easy and secure the employees will figure out how to do it on their own and it may not be as secure as if you do it yourself," Mr Callas added.
Intellectual property security specialists Warwick Hill Group recently claimed that firms' desire to mobilize their workforce is increasing faster than their understanding of security issues.
