The upcoming Data Privacy Day is being backed by many different organizations, it has been revealed.

According to the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), the event on January 28th has attracted "widespread support" around the world.

Michael Kaiser, executive director of the group, said this includes many governments, businesses, industries and communities.

"Every day our lives become more reliant on the internet," he commented.

"The goal behind Data Privacy Day is to educate digital citizens on how to protect their personal information."

This could also make more businesses aware of their obligations when it comes to managing and safeguarding sensitive data.

Mr Kaiser added that although Data Privacy Day lasts for just 24 hours, the NCSA is keen to see digital media users adopt safe data privacy practices throughout the entire year.
