Online merchants will be interested in some very encouraging research from Mercent Corp.
The firm has found that overall e-retail sales grew by 13.6 per cent in the third quarter of 2011, when compared to the same period last year.
Furthermore, this represents the 12th consecutive quarter of year-on-year growth, with the last nine featuring growth in the double digits.
Mercent chief executive officer Eric Best believes that the current economic climate is damaging consumer sentiment, but this in turn sends customers online in search of better deals.
"We also believe the proliferation and use of mobile devices serves as an added mechanism enabling consumers to bargain shop and price compare both online and off," he added.
Research from Perormics seems to back these comments by Mr Best. The firm suggests that mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, will account for 17.3 per cent of all paid search clicks this December.
