Organizations should be careful of not falling into the trap of failing to regularly review their records management processes.
Ellen Messmer, senior editor of Network World, writing for the publication, said that no business is exactly the same as it was five years ago and as such should not have the same processes in place.
"Your power and influence are being whittled away as the organization you work for flings open the doors to allowing employees to use personal mobile devices at work, and pushes traditional computing resources and applications into the cloud - sometimes without your knowledge," she warned.
Failure to update the security of records management processes can increase the risk of a breach, especially if false assumptions are made about the use of personal smartphones and tablets.
Recently, Tony Neate, managing director of Get Safe Online, warned that security attacks on smartphones are only going to increase as they become more popular.
