Data management processes at most firms look set for an overhaul, as more and more companies move towards cloud computing solutions.
Leslie Ferry, vice-president of marketing at voice over IP communication specialists BroadSoft, told the Guardian that the move towards virtualized networks is inevitable as firms scramble to keep up with the latest technology.
There is a noticeable trend, Mr Ferry says, for adopting communications services such as video calling and conferencing, web collaboration and instant messaging, with all of these needing the correct systems to back them up.
"The most efficient way to deploy and manage these new communication options across a dispersed workforce is through cloud-based services," he told the newspaper.
However, James Peel, product manager at open source platform Opsview, warns that companies need to understand that cloud services are appropriate for some services but not for others, meaning that data management processes must be adapted accordingly.
