Generating leads 'vital' for new online sellers

Companies looking to branch out into e-commerce need to concentrate on how they can generate traffic for the website.

This is the view of Stefan Boyle, founder of Print Republic, who says that generating leads and attracting interest is the most import factor for a new e-commerce venture.

No matter how well designed a website is, without some way of drawing customers in it is useless, says Mr Boyle.

"It's how you go about marketing the site that's important. Your proposition to your client is just as important as the look and feel of the site as well," he added.

Mr Boyle goes on to suggest that firms need to gear their site towards getting the customer to do one thing - buy a product. Giving them too many options often means they browse but don't buy, he concludes.

According to Internet Retailer, 73 of the top 100 US sales websites are looking to encourage sales by offering consumers free shipping.
