Information is the second most important resource for firms after staff and the integrity of data quality should always be emphasized, it has been claimed.
According to technology news provider Silicon.com, even large institutions often do not have effective database management governance in place to ensure that data is protected.
The website's Naked CIO column stressed that data input often lacks standardization and basic quality checks and controls.
"Do yourself a favor: establish a data model and introduce data governance and let's see if we can't improve the impact of this vital company resource," the group added.
The news provider went on to say that data management should be identified as a key strategic and operation focus within an organization and staff should be educated as to why data issues occur.
Last week, IT industry analyst Burton Group commented that US enterprises are seeing increasing success when it comes to data loss prevention as a result of new stringent compliance guidelines.
