E-commerce firms using ZIP Code validation software have been advised of the latest key initiatives that can help them expand their consumer base and improve the customer experience.

The International Data Corporation's (IDC) Retail Insights report shows how retailers can make the most of the holiday shopping season.

Retailers are advised to focus on better understanding and delivering value to their customers, as well as collaborating with trading partners by providing updates on promotion performance.

The IDC also recommends managing exceptions to planned costs and adjusting retail price to optimize sell-through.

Leslie Hand, research director at IDC Retail Insights, says that e-commerce retailers can expect very "discerning customers" in the current financial climate.

"This may result in continued profit pressure for retailers due to excessive or sub-optimal discounting strategies," she added.

Mike Seddon, founder of web promotion company KKSmarts.com, recently advised firms to think carefully about what kind of social media platform is most suitable for their marketing needs.
