Worldwide IT spending in the education industry is expected to increase by 2.5 per cent in 2010 and surpass $64 million, according to Gartner.
The news comes after the research firm predicted that total enterprise spending on IT across all industry markets would grow 2.9 per cent and reach $2.4 trillion this year.
"The enterprise IT market will certainly return to growth in 2010, but we now expect it will grow by only 2.9 per cent globally, down from 4.1 per cent growth we had forecast earlier this year," Kenneth Brant, research director at Gartner, said.
"Utilities and the national and international government sectors will experience the strongest growth rates in 2010."
Indeed, Mr Brant urged technology providers to focus on promoting solutions and applications which offered "cost optimization", which he believes will give buyers good value for money as the market returns to growth.
However, the expert advised technology providers to exercise caution in the IT sector while economies worldwide continue to recover.
