The ability to create, maintain and leverage a single, trusted, shareable version of customer master data is seen as an essential requirement in commercial and non-commercial organizations, it has been suggested.
At least this is the view of data integration software company Informatica Corporation which believes that the technology can help to support business processes and business intelligence decisions.
However, the organization claimed that despite its importance, many large enterprises still store incomplete and inaccurate data on their systems.
As such it is important to implement master data management (MDM) strategies to improve the quality of information, Informatica Corporation added.
“MDM is a technology-enabled discipline in which business and the IT organization work together to ensure the uniformity, accuracy, stewardship, semantic consistency and accountability of the enterprise's official, shared master data assets,” the company said.
Computer World recently reported that a survey found data management to be the biggest concern for IT workers today.
