ZIP Code software is being used by website ZocDoc.com to help people find doctors and dentists in the Washington area, reports the Washington Post.
Users type in their ZIP Code details, the specific medical attention they are looking for and details of their insurance plans and the website provides address data of suitable individuals and services nearby.
Around 14,000 appointments will be available in the Washington area on the website's launch and patients will also be able to post reviews of the standard of care they received to act as a guide to other people using the service.
The site has been operating in New York for two years and could be particularly useful for people who have found difficulties in registering with a local doctor or dentist.
In other news, details of how federal stimulus money is being spent throughout the US are available on a new section of Recovery.gov and the site users ZIP Code software to help people identify projects in their area, reports Nextgov.com.
