Online marketing is an affordable way for small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to promote their goods and services, experts have insisted.
According to Citi, owners of many smaller ventures believe using the internet as a marketing outlet is a costly and time-consuming exercise.
However, the organization stressed this is not the case, as there are many "simple ways" of engaging with consumers online.
Tracey Weber, an internet and mobile specialist at Citi's consumer banking division, said it is important for SMEs to have a presence on the internet, as this is "the first place consumers go for information on products and services".
She added that small businesses have a "great opportunity" to use online tools and social networking sites to promote their offerings and stimulate growth.
Ms Weber was speaking after a study by Citi revealed a growing number of SMEs are looking to make use of social media outlets such as Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook in the near future.
