Report predicts widespread expansion of e-commerce operations

Online merchants are feeling positive about the future of e-commerce, according to the results of a new study.

The 2012 Complete Guide to E-Commerce Technology, compiled by Internet Retailer, suggests that 54.6 per cent of web sellers are planning to hire extra staff for their e-commerce operations in the next 12 months.

Of those looking to expand, 26.9 per cent will add one new worker and 38.5 per cent will add between two and five, while 6.3 per cent will be adding more than 50.

Across e-commerce, the biggest need is for programmers, with 36.1 per cent of firms polled requiring this type of employee, while a fifth are in the market for search engine marketing operatives.

According to AT&T, 88 per cent of firms are looking at expanding their m-commerce operations next year, which will undoubtedly prompt a rising in hiring intentions.
