Small-to-medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have been urged to ensure that their online presence is being utilized effectively.
Luke Buckley, country manager of Mamut Ireland, highlighted the growing role that e-commerce is now playing in the marketplace, drawing attention to the increasing number of people now browsing and shopping online.
Speaking to Silicon Republic, Mr Buckley said: "SMEs … have the most to gain from an online trading presence, even the local butcher or clothes boutique.
"More and more people are researching their purchases online and having a strong website can influence purchasing decisions and sway a customer to buy from your company rather than the competition."
Furthermore, the expert noted the importance of ensuring that the same high level of customer service was offered on the web as customers would expect if they visited a store.
According to the latest SpendingPulse report from MasterCard Advisors, the e-commerce sector enjoyed double digit growth in July, increasing 10.9 per cent year-on-year in contrast to June.
