Unified data management ‘will save costs’

Businesses looking for a simple approach to dealing with information backup, recovery, archiving, cloud storage and chargeback should consider opting for a unified approach to data management.

Writing on his IT Business Edge blog, Michael Vizard explained that taking a unified approach could help companies to keep their storage costs to a minimum.

Indeed, the expert explained that the current inefficient use of storage space combined with the massive growth in the amount of data that needs to be managed is sending costs spiralling out of control.

“It's no longer enough to be able to simply tier data. You have to be able to dynamically identify what it really costs to store a particular piece of data in any given tier or storage,” Mr Vizard wrote.

As such, he said that it is no longer possible for organizations working in the IT sector to take a “laissez faire” approach to storage management.

Meanwhile, it was recently reported by Warc that an increasing number of large US firms are now looking to utilize some form of data management system as a means of driving growth.
