Wal-Mart to use ZIP search software for Black Friday

Rachel Wheeler Archive
Wal-Mart is set to release its 2009 Black Friday ads in the run up to the holiday weekend and will use ZIP code software to allow customers to find their local deals.

Once the ad is released and consumers know what the available Wal-Mart deals are, they can type their ZIP code into Wal-Mart's search facilities to find which deals are available in different areas.

As the US's biggest retailer, Wal-Mart's Black Friday bargains are always the most hotly sought after and followed.

Last year, a security guard at the company's store in Long Island, NY, was trampled to death in a stampede as shoppers tried to get past.

Jdimytai Damour was killed after the mob of shoppers smashed through the stores windows and piled into the store. Two others people were also injured.

This year, Wal-Mart is said to be drafting in extra security forces to deal with the crowds of people, as well as keeping their stores open for longer on Black Friday.
