Web applications are attacked every two minutes

Businesses interested in eCommerce technology have been told that web applications come under attack every two minutes.

A new study of ten million web application attacks by Imperva revealed that automated attacks can reach a peak of 25,000 an hour.

This equates to an average of 27 attacks per hour per application, or an attempt to gain access every two minutes.

"The level of automation in cyber attacks continues to shock us. The sheer volume of attacks that can be carried out in such a short period of time is almost unimaginable to most businesses," said Amichai Shulman, lead researcher and Imperva chief technology officer.

He said that it is impossible for businesses using eCommerce technology to create an effective security solution without knowing what the biggest threats are.

Speaking to, Anthony Torreso, from Ruby Ring Technologies, said that companies cannot take security for granted.

He said that many firms did not have a security system in place, while others ran the risk of having no firewall.
