Internet retailers must optimize their site for mobile use in time for Christmas.
This is according to consultancy group Deloitte, which has conducted extensive research into expected consumer trends this holiday season.
It found that of the 42 per cent of consumers who own a smartphone, 27 per cent expect to use the device for their Christmas shopping.
This means that retailers wanting to compete in tough economic conditions this festive season must have a web page that is attractive to mobile users.
Kasey Lobaugh, direct-to-consumer and multichannel retail offering leader at Deloitte Consulting LLP, says retailers that make product reviews available and offer customer service options via mobile devices will be best placed to succeed.
"Consumers are using online and mobile platforms to make the most of their holiday budgets, and the survey indicates that they will do more than just compare prices," added Alison Paul, the firm's vice-chairman and US retail and distribution leader.
