Zip code change 'to cause address data mayhem'

The effectiveness of small firms' address software in Arizona is to be tested when the US postal service (USPS) changes zip codes in the central part of the state next month.

Zip codes that start with 852 will switch to 851 in areas of Pinal County, Queen Creek, and some areas of Maricopa County from July 1st.

According to AZ Central, the USPS will deliver mail to the old zip codes for one year after the change, but this is not long enough for some local businesses to inform all their clients of the alterations.

Patrick Dykes, owner of Patrick's Antique Cars and Trucks in Casa Grande, told the news provider the move will cost him thousands of dollars.

"This is money taken out of circulation to solve a problem that doesn't exist," he commented.

This week, representatives of the city of Whitewater announced they are to embark on an extensive direct marketing campaign to attract businesses to the area.
