What is ContactPoint?

ContactPoint is a basic online directory of every child aged 2-18 in England. Information held will include name, address, gender, date of birth and a unique identifying number, name and contact details for a child's parent or carer and contact details for services working with a child.

The ContactPoint database will be the quick way for a practitioner to find out who else is working with the same child or young person, making it easier to deliver more coordinated support. It is a key part of the Every Child Matters programme to improve outcomes for children.

ContactPoint, in its collection of such information will comprise a comprehensive contact data strategy. The Government also ensures that the identity and personal details on the database are secure and are only accessed by a limited number of authorised professionals.
