 What is the National Land and Property Gazetteer?

 The purpose of the National Land and Property Gazetteer is to create a 'single, unique source of address data’ linked to consistent national reference number for each property unit. Where previously local authorities had several separate databases.

This will enable the unambiguous identification of land and property. The local authorities in England and Wales updated this source on a continual basis and the NLPG now contains over 300 million records.

What is the purpose of the National Land and Property Gazetteer?

Local Councils have responsibilities for planning, building control and street naming. The information the National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG) collect provides insight into any changes to property or land. A government initiative meant that local councils were responsible for creating a modern unified, single database providing a comprehensive source of address data to provide better service to the public.
To maintain this unified process the National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG) was created to continue coordinating an aligned approach.
